St. Jerome¡¯s University (SJU), a public Roman Catholic university, federated with and located within the University of Waterloo, is inviting applications for a tenured or tenure-track appointment at the rank of Associate or Assistant Librarian, with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2022 (subject to budgetary approval). The Librarian provides leadership and vision in planning and managing the Library and Archives at St. Jerome¡¯s University. The SJU Library shares a catalogue with the University of Waterloo, and is part of the OMNI collaboration with fifteen other Ontario university partner libraries.
This position offers an exciting leadership opportunity in a beautifully renovated library: in early 2020, the SJU Library completed a 2.25-million-dollar renovation that includes 17,000 square feet of state-of-the-art learning, research, collaborative, and quiet study spaces; an accessibility lift; collaborative smart classrooms; and electronic compact shelving.

Reporting to the Vice President Academic and Dean, the Librarian provides leadership in determining and implementing library policy, developing and monitoring the budget, and short- and long-term planning and visioning for the library. The Librarian oversees all aspects of the library including public services, supervision of staff (currently one Library Associate, an Archives Assistant, and approximately ten student assistants), development and management of collections, Archives, the provision of research help, and information literacy instruction. The library provides support for all of SJU¡¯s undergraduate academic programs and its Master of Catholic Thought program. The Archives documents the history of St. Jerome¡¯s University from 1865 to the present and contains the archives of SJU¡¯s founding religious order, the Congregation of the Resurrection.
The Librarian participates in the shared governance of the University through membership on Senate Council, Academic Committee, and the Administrative Leadership Group; chairs the Library Advisory Committee; is an active participant in service to the University and beyond; and serves as liaison with all departments of St. Jerome¡¯s University and with the University of Waterloo library. Along with the faculty of SJU, the Librarian is a member of the St. Jerome¡¯s Academic Staff Association. As a member of the academic staff, the Librarian pursues research and scholarly activities and is afforded research time to dedicate to these pursuits. The Librarian may also participate in teaching as appropriate to their expertise.
The successful candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in an Arts or Social Science discipline, an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science (or equivalent) degree and should have a minimum of five years of experience working as a Librarian in an academic library. An additional graduate degree in an Arts or Social Science discipline is highly desirable and is a requirement for promotion to Associate Librarian. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership, collaboration, communication, and research skills, and will offer creativity, energy, and the ability to develop and deliver an engaging vision for library services at St. Jerome¡¯s University.
This position will be filled at the level of Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian. As of May 1, 2021, the base annual salary for an Assistant Librarian is $63,346; for an Associate Librarian it is $79,728.

This position combines teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities. The School seeks candidates with a strong interest in, and capacity for, interdisciplinary research. Candidates will be expected to teach in at least two programs at the graduate or undergraduate levels. Professional information management experience will be an asset.
