Subject: Survey on IFLA's Intellectual Freedom Statement
Dear all,I hope you are all well!As you may have seen on IFLA’s website and social media, the FAIFE Committee has launched a survey as part of its efforts to review and revise the IFLA Statement on Libraries and Intellectual Freedom. Following the 20th anniversary of the Statement last year, we are keen to hear your views on how it has been used, and what we could do – both in terms of its substance and form – to make it more effective still as a tool for your work. The survey therefore asks about awareness and deployment of the statement, as well as what you think the key developments in recent years have been around intellectual freedom (defined as ‘the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers’), both in general and in the library space. We welcome responses from around the world, as well as from different library experiences, in order to get the widest possible understanding of the challenges you face, and the opportunities you see. As a result, please feel free to share the survey among colleagues and networks. We are currently aiming for a deadline of 15 January, but if it will be difficult to provide responses by then, we can consider extensions. You can access the survey here: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/6079557/Updating-the-IFLA-Intellectual-Freedom-Statement-A-Survey.Kind regardsEllen R. Tise
