Internal Service's Corporate Information Management Program sets IM direction by developing and delivering corporate strategies and policies and delivering projects and services that support our clients across government in how they analyze, use, share, manage, and innovate with their data and information. Some of our current focus areas include open data, information sharing, enterprise content management, data as a service, and analytics.

A Day in the Life of a Corporate Information Management Architect

As the Information Management Architect (CSO 4), you will play a strategic role in the implementation of an Enterprise Information Management (EIM) Strategy for the Province of Nova Scotia as part of the modernization action plan in support of digital government.

You will be reporting to and supported by the Manager of the Corporate Information Management Program. You will play a key role in supporting and sharing the importance of managing information to government and the citizens of Nova Scotia. You will make a difference in our future state as you participate in the ongoing development of the Corporate Information Management Program and its services, and you will help to shape our services for the future and ensure they meet client expectations.

You will be responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of various corporate information and data strategies, policies, standards, guidelines, and best practices in support of new strategic directions. You will lead large corporate IM projects and initiatives that optimize the value of government's data and information and provide value to government, businesses, and the citizens of Nova Scotia. Collaboration and engagement with the broader IM team, ICTS colleagues, business partners, and our clients is an important part of our work. You will also lead teams and manage projects and team performance; develop business cases and tangible capital asset submissions for new information and data services including financial analysis and project funding; and develop requests for purchase and statements of work for supporting services and manage the work of consultants or liaise with vendors.

As a subject matter expert, you will need to stay on top of emerging and innovative trends in IM and be able to advise and set IM direction for government; work with and advise our client departments on IM matters; create informative and engaging materials and deliver them to a variety of audiences; facilitate meetings and workshops; and participate on strategic IM related committees.

What Makes a Great Corporate Information Management Architect

A university degree in a specialization applicable to the information management discipline or other relevant degree in areas such as library and information sciences, informatics, public administration, or business administration and a minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience. An acceptable combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

You will have the following skills and work experience:

  *   Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work with, win and maintain the respect and confidence of colleagues and clients at all levels within government as well as with external stakeholders and provide information services with a customer-centric focus;
  *   Proven ability to develop and implement policy;
  *   Ability to develop strategies that support the value of information as a corporate asset that contributes to the effectiveness and efficiency of government;
  *   Strong research and analytical skills;
  *   Excellent communication (verbal and written), organization, and planning skills;
  *   Training and experience in project management;
  *   Working knowledge of metrics, measurement, evaluation, and marketing, and an ability to apply them;
  *   A good understanding of current technologies and service delivery models;
  *   Expertise in specialized areas of IM;
  *   A broad-base of IM knowledge and experience in data management and analytics.

The following would be considered assets:

  *   Specific experience with open data, big data, business intelligence, analytics, and coding and scripting;
  *   Knowledge or experience with SharePoint and FileNet or other ECM technologies;
  *   A good understanding of government's IM-related legislation and current IM policies;
  *   An excellent understanding of Government priorities;

Considerable initiative is required to manage, control, and facilitate the completion of projects in this role. You will find this work meaningful if you are a self-starter who can operate independently at a high level with general direction only and be able to dynamically switch focus based on priorities. You will work and participate as a member of a multi-disciplined team. In this role, you will leverage your above average judgement to provide direction and support to develop IM strategies, policies, standards and guidelines.

Pay Grade:  PR 17

Salary Range:  $2,786.00 - $3,272.00 Bi-Weekly
