Obituary for Anne Latimer Nyland

Anne Latimer Nyland died on February 27, 2018 at age 99 in Edmonton Alberta. She was a leader in developing public library services across Ontario and Nova Scotia.  After graduating with her BLS from the University of Toronto in 1941 she became Librarian in Charge of the Fort Frances Library until 1945.  She was Chief Librarian of the Pembroke Library until 1950 and then led the Essex County Library Cooperative until 1958.  In Nova Scotia she was Assistant Director of the Nova Scotia Provincial Library and then became the first Chief Librarian of the Halifax County Regional Library.  In 1964 she became Chief Librarian of the Cornwall Public Library and in 1970 took on the added responsibility as Chief Executive Officer of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry County Library.  Throughout her career she was active in library associations both provincial and national. In 1982 she was awarded the Ontario Library Trustees’ Association Award of Merit for distinguished service.  She retired in 1984.
