SALARY:  $24.5867 to $34.3733 per hour (Pay Band 4)

JOB PURPOSE:

Horizon Library Services supports healthcare teams by providing timely access to knowledge-based resources, evidence-based research and best practice information. It provides a distributed service across the health authority with physical libraries in five hospitals. Library Services is an arm of, and works in tandem with, the Horizon Workforce Development team. 

As the librarian for the Saint John Area, you will work with your colleagues in other Horizon areas, and the library technicians you supervise, to contribute to the overall strategic and operational planning, management, development and promotion of the regional service. You will bring current knowledge of the issues and trends in library services, information technologies, copyright, and the Canadian health care system to the organization. You will assure Horizon values and policies are applied in your service.

You will also contribute to the broader Workforce Development mandate by facilitating classroom teaching, including a rotating role in delivering General Orientation classroom sessions and participating in other Workforce Development initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in library or information services from an ALA accredited program
• Special training or experience in health sciences librarianship and management
• Knowledge of evidence-based practice processes and tools through completion of a recognized
• program
• Knowledge of information literacy and research methodologies
• Experience in classroom-based learning facilitation
• Knowledge of the application of the electronic/network environment to library and information
• services
• Ability to perform the duties of the position
• Ability to attend work on a regular basis
• Written and spoken competence in English is required
• Ability to travel within the regional health authority

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conducts literature searches
• Provides high level reference services, as required
• Facilitates transfer of best evidence into practice through collaboration with others
• Supervises and conducts performance development of library technician(s)
• Facilitates classroom-based general orientation and other programs as required and appropriate
• Coordinates functional library services including reference and current awareness services, document delivery, collection management of print and online resources, purchasing and cataloguing, information literacy
• Responsible for area library budget
