Dear Colleagues,
Now that the Once Book Nova Scotia (1BNS) tour is complete, and this year’s campaign comes to a close, we are seeking new members to join the 1BNS Steering Committee. This is a wonderful opportunity to take part in an initiative that brings
together communities across the province through the collective reading of one title. We aim to inspire conversation, foster community engagement, promote literacy, and instill a sense of togetherness through reading across Nova Scotia. If you’d like more
information on 1BNS, you can visit our Facebook page or
www.1bns.ca (or you can contact me directly).
We have five positions to be filled on the Steering Committee:
Programming Chair
The Programming chair, with the assistance of the Programming Committee, coordinates and oversees the province-wide author readings (communicating with the author and publisher, scheduling the author at participating libraries, coordinating
accommodation and travel for the author, etc.) develops programming packages/read-alike lists/key messaging and disseminates this material to the libraries, and provides updates to the Steering Committee at monthly meetings. This position requires a considerable
amount of time investment, but it offers an incredible programming experience and the opportunity to work with some fabulous authors (and your colleagues on the Steering Committee, of course!). As with all members of the Steering Committee, the Programming
Chair helps to oversee the entire 1BNS campaign from title selection to the author tour.
Marketing & Promotions Chair
The Chair of the Marketing & Promotions Committee, with the help of the Marketing & Promotions Committee, oversees community engagement initiatives, social media campaigns, prizes and contests, and media packages. As with all members of
the Steering Committee, the Marketing & Promotions Chair helps to oversee the entire 1BNS campaign from title selection to the author tour.
Members, Public Library Representatives
The Public Library Representatives (One from Halifax Public Libraries, and one from another region) sit on the Steering Committee and represents the interests of public libraries in the province. As with all members of the Steering Committee,
the Public Library Representatives help to oversee the entire 1BNS campaign from title selection to the author tour.
Member, NSCC Representative
The NSCC Representative sits on the Steering Committee and represents the interests of the NSCC Libraries. As with all members of the Steering Committee, the NSCC Representative help to oversee the entire 1BNS campaign from title selection
to the author tour.
If you are interested in any of these positions, please feel free to contact me at

“Most people don't realize how important librarians are. I ran across a book recently which suggested that the peace and prosperity of a culture was solely related to how many librarians
it contained. Possibly a slight overstatement. But a culture that doesn't value its librarians doesn't value ideas and without ideas, well, where are we?” - Neil Gaiman
