Reference Librarian, Leslie Frost Library, York University – 2-year Contractually Limited Appointment

York University Libraries seek a fluently bilingual (French and English) service-oriented librarian with excellent communication skills to serve as a member of the Leslie Frost Library and to provide reference and research assistance, instruction, collection development and liaison services. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, creative and self-motivated person who works well with colleagues in a dynamic environment.

York University Libraries consist of a large central library and three branch libraries, one of which is the Leslie Frost Library on the Glendon campus.  York's collections have over six million items, including nearly two and a half million book volumes and a multitude of electronic resources.

The Leslie Frost Library provides facilities, resources, reference, research, and instructional services for approximately 2,800 students and faculty. The bilingual Glendon University College offers courses in the social sciences, humanities, and international relations and graduate programs such as French, Hispanic Studies, Public Affairs and Translation. Three full-time librarians and six full-time support staff are currently based in the Leslie Frost Library.

The chosen candidate will provide research assistance to undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty virtually and in person; offer information literacy instruction to library users individually and in groups; liaise with faculty members; participate in collections development and maintenance; create and maintain web-based resources for research and learning; and participate in departmental working groups and committees of the Libraries and of Glendon.  Some evening and weekend work and travel between campuses is required.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
·        An ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent.
·        Strong written and oral communication skills in both French and English.
·        Broad knowledge of the full range of information sources relevant to the social sciences, sciences and humanities including Drama Studies, English Studies, Environmental & Health Studies, Biology, Education, Sociology, Spanish (Hispanic Studies) and Women's Studies.
·        Understanding of the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy instruction.
·        Demonstrated excellence in teaching and presentation skills.
·        Demonstrated ability to provide excellent research consultation services.  
·        Demonstrated expertise with online content management platforms such as WordPress or LibGuides.
·        A strong public service ethic and/or background.
·        Excellent advocacy, organizational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
·        Demonstrated ability to liaise with key stakeholders.
·        Understanding of collection development and collection management practices and principles.
·        Evidence of professional initiative and leadership.
·        Willingness to assume some administrative responsibilities.
·        Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and projects concurrently.
·        Demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively with a diverse population of faculty, librarians, staff, and students.
·        Committed to and interested in undertaking library and university committee responsibilities, research and scholarship, and professional development.
·        Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and a willingness to work collaboratively.
·        Conversant in topics related to scholarly communications.

This is a 2-year contractually-limited appointment with the designation of Adjunct Librarian and appropriate for a librarian with up to five years post-MLS experience. Librarians at York University have academic status and are members of the York University Faculty Association bargaining unit (http://www.yufa.org/). Salary is commensurate with qualifications. The position is available from Oct. 1st, 2016. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
