The Tuesday, May 17th, deadline is fast approaching to register for the ABC Copyright Conference. The good news is that there's still time to register for this fantastic forum where you can hear all of the latest and greatest on topics and issues revolving around copyright!
We have several great speakers lined up, including Wanda Noel, legal counsel who has represented users of copyright-protected works in several high profile copyright cases, including the landmark Alberta case before the Supreme Court of Canada that established that teachers can copy a short excerpt from copyright-protected works for each student in a class.
There are several innovative sessions on tap such as "Hack the Act" on, an interactive session where participants will be given the opportunity in a group setting to re-work the sections of the Copyright Act most relevant to academic institutions.
You can find more details about the conference, sessions, and speakers, at http://abccopyright2016.com/ Registration for the conference is easily accomplished at http://abccopyright2016.com/index.php/register/?action=evregister&event_id=1
Also, while the deadline (April 15th) has now passed for the ABC Copyright Conference hotel guest room block, we are pleased to advise that the Lord Nelson will honour the discounted rate for those using the promo code 34755 as long as there are rooms still available. Act fast if you wish to stay at the conference site!
We hope you will join friends new and old at the opening reception on the evening of May 26th at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21! While you’re here are you interested in tracking
your family history? The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 has
access to immigration records for all ports of entry into Canada (not
just Pier 21) and use many sources that assist
with tracing family histories in Canada, US and overseas. The Museum’s
Scotiabank Family History Centre (SFHC) will work with conference
participants via email to research your family history prior to the
conference (see research form under Stay & Explore
on the conference website (http://abccopyright2016.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Pier-21-Research-Form.docx). If the search is successful, you
will be notified and provided with instructions on how to acquire your record(s) when you arrive onsite.
