DUTIES: The primary responsibility of this position is the management of all Library Access Services including: circulation, information and reference triage, faculty reserves, distance and online learning assistance, hours of operation, frontline financial transactions, ID/Library card production, and stacks maintenance. Duties include coordinating the development of policies and procedures related to Access Services areas. The Manager supervises 5 full-time and 3 part-time permanent NSGEU staff members. The Manager is responsible for scheduling and monitoring coverage of all front line services, hiring and coordinating the ongoing training of frontline staff, and conducting performance reviews for quality assurance. The position also leads the hiring of all student assistants throughout the academic year, including the coordination of semi-annual internal student grant applications to support special projects and services, the supervision of library technician practicum students, and the management of the casual staff budget. Additional duties as required may include supporting the Reference and Instruction team, participating in University orientation activities, and coordinating donated and discarded library material for redistribution. The incumbent works closely with all Library staff and reports to the University Librarian.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a University degree and a minimum of three years of previous work experience in a library, preferably in an academic environment. A Library Technician’s Diploma will be considered an asset. The candidate must have managerial experience, the ability to work collaboratively with library staff and staff working in closely linked departments, and thrive in a dynamic environment where innovative approaches to the changing nature of library services are encouraged. The Mount is committed to exceptional customer service and requires candidates to have proven positive interpersonal skills and a history of fostering collaborative relationships with members of campus and consortial communities including other staff, students, faculty, alumnae and community patrons. Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and the development of policies and procedures is required. The candidate should possess technical skills and have experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database software (e.g. MS Word, Excel and Access). Knowledge of automated Library systems (preferably Ex Libris’ Aleph used within the Novanet consortium of Libraries) is essential.
Starting Salary: $49,423 per annum (Range: $49,423 - $60,131)
