Library Assistant - Reserves
(Full-time NSGEU Position)

DUTIES: The primary responsibilities of this position include providing services to library patrons at the Access Services Desk, carrying out all functions of the Novanet circulation module, and operating the Library’s Reserve services. The responsibilities of Reserve include receiving and processing print for reserves in the Aleph Circulation module and creating or linking to digital resources for access via the Mount’s course management system, liaising with faculty and keeping current with Canadian copyright as it relates to higher education. Other tasks include handling financial transactions, patron notice production, care and control of the Library’s audio-visual equipment and mobile devices, stack maintenance, and handling material exchanged with other Novanet libraries. Library Assistants may also carry out additional duties such as assisting with reference work, library tours, preparing instructional material and organizing displays as required. The incumbent works under the day-to-day supervision of the Manager, Access Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a University degree and a minimum of one year of previous work experience
in a library, preferably in an academic environment. A Library Technician’s Diploma will be considered an asset. The candidate must have an interest in, and knowledge of, the Canadian copyright landscape and its application in an academic environment. Knowledge
of Moodle or other forms of learning management systems, proficiency in the use of scholarly research databases, skills in using word processing, spreadsheet and database software (e.g. MS Word, Excel and Access), and experience with the digitization of materials
are considered assets. The Mount is committed to exceptional customer service and this position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as experience working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. The Mount Library is
a busy, fast-paced environment and the incumbent must be flexible and have the ability to switch tasks quickly and easily. Technical skills and experience with an automated Library system (preferably ExLibris’ Aleph) is essential.
Classification: NSGEU – Level 5
Starting Salary: $31, 218 per annum (Range: $31,218 - $37,273)
