The Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has an excellent opportunity for a full time Librarian/Information Specialist. The Information Specialist is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of library and information service for the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Working with considerable independence, the Information Specialist uses his/her expertise to devise innovative and effective strategies for the Department to integrate library services into Department operations, and to develop services that anticipate and meet the information needs of library clients. Duties include performing in-depth research, evaluation of information sources, collection development and evaluation, management of the library budget, and marketing library services to clients.
The Information Specialist ensures the effective management of human resources by setting and evaluating staff performance targets, and promoting diversity and a healthy and respectful workplace. The Information Specialist plans and manages the library budgets, monitoring revenues and expenditures, as well as negotiating the acquisition of information resources and services. The Information Specialist also supports the Information Management Division in key accountabilities related to copyright and the management of information resources; communicating the importance of information as a strategic business resource and asset of the provincial government to managers and staff across the department; and by actively participating in Department-wide information management initiatives.
The Information Specialist will be a skilled project manager, will display high quality customer service orientation, and will possess a genuine desire to assist others with their information management needs.
A Master of Library Science/Information Studies from an ALA-accredited program, and a minimum of five years’ related experience is required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to locate, retrieve, analyze and interpret information from a variety of information resources, in response to client needs. The successful candidate will possess strong skills in the organization of information and in optimizing the value of information.
The successful candidate will possess competencies that include initiative, analytical and conceptual thinking, and innovative approaches to problem solving. Superior oral/written communication and interpersonal skills, and superior skills in the complete suite of Microsoft applications, are required.
Experience in a special library environment would be an asset.

Salary Range: $53,981- $65,618
