Reporting to the Librarian 4 (Systems & Collections Access) the User Experience Librarian works collaboratively with regional public libraries, other libraries and partners to enhance user experience in Nova Scotia libraries.  The Librarian researches new and developing services and technologies and makes recommendations on their future exploration and potential implementation in libraries and may manage the daily operation of implemented services.

The User Experience Librarian works as part of a team of highly specialized professionals that supports all aspects of the Integrated Library System (ILS) and other automated library systems, including help desk support and troubleshooting.  The Librarian monitors and manages ILS report generation and changes to software configuration to support operations of client libraries, including the functional supervision of work completed in this area by other NSPL staff.  The User Experience Librarian is responsible for the optimal configuration, functionality and usability of the interface that individuals use to access the library catalogue of our partner libraries.  The Librarian manages functionality issues and troubleshooting related to access to library resources.

The Librarian develops and delivers technology related training and materials for NSPL, regional libraries and other stakeholders, as appropriate.  The Librarian provides leadership, consultation and support on issues related to library technologies to all client libraries and Provincial Library staff and actively participates in departmental committees, as appropriate. 

Bachelor’s Degree plus post-graduate degree in Library Science plus 2 years professional library experience.  Knowledge of metadata coding standards.  Experience with library catalogue end users  and/or end users of electronic resources. Ability to quickly learn new technologies and stay current with technological developments in libraries. Website design and maintenance experience. Thorough understanding of library operations. Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with both library and vendor staff. Ability to organize work, develop effective work processes and assess work priorities. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, as required.  Excellent analytical, trouble-shooting and problem solving skills.  Accuracy and attention to detail.  Excellent one-on-one and group presentation and training skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively and work productively and collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups in a complex and rapidly changing environment.  Experience with integrated library systems (Unicorn or Symphony preferred) is an asset.  Experience in collections development principles and/or practices are an asset. Public library experience is an asset.

Pay Grade:  PR 12

Salary Range:  $51,913 - $62,989
