Hi Folks, (And sorry for cross postings)

As some of you may know I am part of a project in western Nova Scotia that is involved in fostering a better understanding of how the social determinants impact on our health. We run a blog as part of this project and this past month we’ve run a theme asking different contributors about poverty and how it impacts on their work. Our latest contributor is Sara Gillis from Halifax Public Libraries, who generous devoted sometime and wonderful words to our blog posting about her perspectives on poverty from where she is as a practitioner working in a public library setting. It’s great and I wanted to share it. http://www.changingourpictureofhealth.ca/?p=536 At the site you’ll find a short documentary film, some facilitation tools – please look around and share if you see anything there that is valuable.

I also wanted to invite others who are doing interesting things at their libraries with regards to community building (could be literacy work, books and babies, or that most awesome partnership from Tantallon Public Library and the Junior High I can’t remember at the moment, it was presented at APLA last year, amazing work) and want to blog about it, please feel free to email me and we can chat.

Thanks Sara for your contribution  - cheers all,

Michelle
