The Faculty of Education is seeking a multi-skilled individual to fill a full-time term contract position as Coordinator of the Education Learning Commons.
The Faculty of Education at UPEI is a small, dynamic team of educators committed to developing compassionate, collaborative and innovative teachers and to building just and equitable relationships in local and global communities. The Faculty offers a two-year B.Ed. program, with optional specializations in Indigenous Education and International Education; a B.Ed. (français langue seconde); a B.Ed. (kindergarten-maternelle); a B.Ed. in adult education; post-baccalaureate certificates in Inclusive Education and School Librarianship; a M.Ed. degree in Leadership and Learning; and a PhD in Educational Studies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Dean, the incumbent will be responsible for the daily operation of the Education Learning Commons. This role includes:
- providing extensive reference services to undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty;
- carrying out basic cataloguing and copy cataloguing using Canadian Subject Headings and AACR2 standards;
- providing circulation services using the Koha integrated library system;
- maintaining a collection of English and French materials, including selecting and purchasing appropriate resources;
- managing the ELC’s budget and financial records;
- training and supervising student assistants;
- organizing and facilitating workshops, in-class lessons, and small group and one-on-one tutorials on a variety of educational technologies (eg. iPads, SMART Boards, social media, etc.);
- general management of the ELC.
This position has a significant technology support component. The Coordinator is responsible for the Education Learning Commons section of the Faculty of Education webpage and will also collaborate with students and faculty to integrate both print and electronic learning resources into their teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a Master of Library and Information Studies with experience in teaching information literacy and services for children and youth or a Bachelor of Education with training and experience in school librarianship or education and experience equivalent to these qualifications.
Essential skills are:
- knowledge and experience in library management;
- understanding and awareness of curriculum and learning resources for teachers;
- expertise in the use of information and communication technologies for teaching and learning;
- strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
- excellent written and oral communication skills;
- the ability to interact collaboratively with Faculty and students.
The ability to read, speak and understand the French language will be considered an asset.
Hours of Work: Approximately 37.5 hours per week. Hours will vary. The ELC is normally open during course hours and in the evenings during practicum.
Term: January 2, 2013 to June 15, 2013 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements.)
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications
