Temporary Library Cataloguing Technician

START DATE:          Soonest Temporary Position to June 30, 2013
POSITION:               Temporary Library Cataloguing Technician
SALARY RANGE:    Group 3
UNION:                     FUNSCAD Unit II 
DEPARTMENT:        Library 
HOURS OF WORK: 30 Hours per week -4 days per week (9:00am – 6:00pm two days and 9:00am – 5:00pm two days)
                                  September 1, 2012 (or as soon as possible) to June 30, 2013

Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the University Librarian, performs responsible and varied paraprofessional and technical work for the Library in the area of technical services. Manages the proper functioning of the technical services division on a daily basis. Catalogues materials, making materials shelf-ready and maintains the library's technical services area.  Also assists patrons in the use of library services and facilities.
 Primary Responsibilities:
• Performs original and copy cataloguing of books, e-books and e-resources
• Assists with circulation duties
• Responsible for cataloguing and end processing of serials and books
• Maintains and updates authority records
• Provides information literacy
• Repairs damaged materials, as appropriate
• Organizes and oversees collection projects as directed by the University Librarian
• Trains student assistants assigned to technical services
• Reports and records withdrawals to the appropriate division of Novanet /LC
• Maintains and catalogues the library’s Archival material and exhibitions catalogues
• Inventories and reports technical services supply needs
• Maintains statistics on technical services activity
• Assists with LiveHelp  chat service as needed
• Other duties as assigned
 
Minimum Qualifications:

• Library Technicians’ Diploma preferred
• Knowledge of standard library operations and procedures 
• Knowledge of AACR 2 cataloguing rules and MARC coding. RDA would be an asset
• Familiarity with Novanet technical services functions preferred
• Working knowledge of on-line information resources and database-searching
• Strong public service orientation
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as part of a team
• Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
• Excellent organizational skills and oral and written communication skills

Preference will be given to members of FUNSCAD Unit II.
