Research and Reference Librarian, Patrick Power Library

The Patrick Power Library at Saint Mary’s University invites applications from an energetic and innovative librarian to lead our Research and Reference service into the future. We require a dynamic individual with demonstrated initiative and creativity in service development and delivery.  This is a full-time, continuing position.  The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program as well as demonstrated knowledge of research methods in a number of disciplines and knowledge of current trends in library research services.   Two to three years post-MLS experience in an academic library is an asset.  The successful applicant will report to the University Librarian within a collegial working environment.

Within the rapidly evolving context of academic libraries, the Librarian will evaluate the effectiveness of research resources and services and will advance new resources and services accordingly. The Librarian will take a leadership and training role in providing flexible, technology-oriented services conducive to scholarship and learning.  He/she will have an understanding of the application of emerging technologies and social media to research and reference services. The Librarian will liaise with faculty on reference and research issues, and will oversee the reference collection, paying particular attention to cross-disciplinary resources and emerging delivery formats.

The Librarian will have responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of the Research and Reference Department.  He/she will participate in the hiring, training, and evaluation of Department staff and student assistants and determines work assignments for reference service.  He/she will participate in library management and consortium activities, as required.  The Librarian will have Collection Development Liaison responsibilities for two or more academic departments and participate in the Library’s Information Literacy program.
