Hello all,

I have no reason to doubt anything in Jennifer Mersereau's post. Since
she works for NRC, I am sure she knows what changes have gone in within
that organisation.

However, there have certainly been changes in CISTIs document delivery
service. It used to be possible to search for an item in the CISTI
catalogue, make your ILL/Document Delivery request, and within a couple
of hours you would have your article to be downloaded. If there was a
problem you could phone CISTI and it was fixed very quickly. For those
of us in small science libraries that can't afford to pay for many
electronic (or other) journal subscriptions, CISTI's document delivery
service was a godsend.

Since this function has been farmed out to Infotrieve, I've had to stop
using it. My requests were sent in the wrong format, the invoices were
incorrect, and ordering was cumbersome. Customer service is very poor.
It's both sad and frustrating. It is certainly not an improvement or
even a continuation of a good service, it's a step backward.

Hi All:

I want to address the misconception in the post by Seana Collins that
CISTI has been “disbanded”. This is not correct. CISTI continues to
serve the National Research Council (NRC) and maintain a national
science library service for the Canadian innovation community, as
mandated by the National Research Council Act.

As you may know, NRC has undergone a transformation from an
institute-based structure to a program-based structure in order to
strengthen its contribution to Canada’s innovation system. As part of
this transformation, CISTI has taken on a larger Knowledge Management
mandate within NRC that includes Records Management, Foresight,
Collaboration, and Competitive & Market Intelligence services. CISTI’s
national science library services are unchanged; they are now offered as
part of this broader NRC Knowledge Management mandate.
