Full-time, ten-month, limited-term librarian
position
August 1, 2012 – May 31, 2013
The Dalhousie University Libraries are seeking an
innovative,
service-oriented professional librarian to provide sabbatical
relief including
the provision of front-line reference service, in-class
instruction and the
creation of online learning resources.
The reference service duties will be located (for 5
months) at the
Killam Memorial Library which serves the teaching and research
needs of the
students, faculty and researchers in the faculties of Arts &
Social
Sciences, Sciences, Management and Computer Science as well as
community users;
and (for 5 months) at the Kellogg Health Sciences Library which
serves the teaching
and research needs of the students, faculty and researchers in
the faculties of
Dentistry, Health Professions and Medicine as well as community
users. The development
of online instructional
tutorials and other learning resources will involve working with
colleagues
from all libraries in the Dalhousie Libraries system.

Update and further develop the Libraries’ online
instructional
material -- online tutorials and LibCasts
·
Teach and assist library users to search a variety
of print and
electronic resources at the Reference and Research Assistance
Desks
·
Assist with on-site and Livehelp reference in the
Killam Memorial
Library and the Kellogg Health Sciences Library
·
Assist in the Libraries’ instructional activities
·
Explore the
integration of library content
into BBLearn
·
Perform basic
Health Science literature
searches for external clients
·
Review and improve
the Distance Education
webpages and Libguides
·
Handle special projects such as compiling Kellogg
Public Services
annual statistics in early April
Qualifications:
·
An MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution
or equivalent is
essential
·
A strong commitment to public service, and
excellent communication
skills in the English language
·
Creativity and ability to present library
instructional material
in a clear, attractive and understandable way in an online
environment
·
Has in-depth, up-to-date working knowledge of
specific software
used to create LibCasts and tutorials is essential (e.g.
Camtasia, Audacity,
SoftChalk, Lectora and Blackboard)
·
Successful reference experience in an academic
library is
desirable
·
Proven ability to work independently, essential
Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications
and experience,
and subject to the terms of the Dalhousie Faculty Association
Collective
Agreement.
