Copyeditor
Partnership: The Canadian Journal of Library and Information Practice and Research invites applications for the position of Copyeditor.
Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, and working in a collegial atmosphere with a team of eleven other
Partnership editors, including an experienced copyeditor, this is an unpaid position on one of Canada’s leading open access journals serving the library profession. The position provides
excellent recognition and professional development opportunities. Benefits include complimentary registration at the annual OLA Super Conference.
The initial term of appointment is two years (renewable).
Copyeditors recommend improvements to the language and sentence structure of a manuscript to promote clarity and conciseness of expression. They also make corrections to spelling, typographical
errors, grammar and punctuation, and ensure that authors follow correct citation format.
Duties
·
Receives copyediting requests from the Editor-in-Chief.
·
Performs an initial copyedit using the MS Word Track Changes feature and forwards the revised manuscript back to the author for the author’s copyedit.
·
Reviews the author’s changes and performs a final copyedit.
·
Finalizes changes and initiates request for pre-layout proofread.
Qualifications
·
Excellent writing skills. A successful publication record would be an asset.
·
Thorough understanding of the rules of grammar and punctuation.
·
Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
·
Ability to communicate with authors in a tactful manner.
·
Familiarity with OJS workflow would be an asset.
Background
Partnership copyediting workflow is conducted within the Open Journal System (OJS) content management system. The business of running the journal is carried out primarily by email with
occasional teleconferences and one face-to-face meeting per year. Copyediting will be shared by two copyeditors who, between them, may copyedit 20 to 30 articles per issue. The work is concentrated in the spring and fall during the two
months prior to publication dates. The workload would probably not exceed 15-18 days per year.
