Copyright or Copywrong: the Tax on Scholarly Communication

Students, faculty and interested members of the public are invited to a presentation marking international Open Access Week, a week dedicated to promoting open access to scholarly information.  The event will begin with refreshments at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday October 26th in the Dunn Building, Room 108. 

Dalhousie University librarian, Bill Maes, will give the keynote address on the Access Copyright collective and his university’s recent decision to opt out of the agreement.  Mr. Maes will discuss the implications of this decision for faculty and students in Halifax and across the country.

Presenters will also provide information on “copying right” and on local open access initiatives. This discussion is particularly timely in light of the recent re-introduction of the former Bill C-32 (the Copyright Modernization Act) in the Canadian Parliament.
