Please join us in congratulating Donna Bourne-Tyson (class of 1990) who has been appointed the University Librarian at Dalhousie. Below is the press release from Dal’s President, Tom Traves:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Donna Bourne-Tyson as the University Librarian, following a national and international search process. Ms. Bourne-Tyson assumes her new position effective Nov. 1, 2011.
Donna has been the University Librarian at Mount Saint Vincent University since 2005, where she has led numerous innovative changes in that system. In addition, her knowledge of copyright issues will be valuable in informing the strategy of the university as we proceed further into electronic resources. Donna is recognized regionally and nationally in the university library community and we look forward to working with her to expand the reach and effectiveness of the information resources at Dalhousie as we go forward.
Donna is familiar with Dalhousie as an alumna of Dalhousie’s Master of Library and Information Studies program. In addition, she holds a Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Arts from Nipissing University.
Bill Maes has kindly agreed to continue serving as the University Librarian until the end of October. Bill has led the University Library with great vision from a typical books and journal building into the learning hub we have today. I would like to thank him for his exemplary service to Dalhousie over the past 12 years and wish him a productive and well-earned sabbatical year.
