ROBERTSON LIBRARY
LIBRARIAN
ONE-YEAR TERM POSITION
Competition Number:
25A10

The University of Prince Edward Island is inviting applications for a one-year term Librarian, with the possibility of renewal. The Library provides an innovative environment that offers many exciting opportunities for defining the future of academic library services – we want creative thinkers and doers.

The University of PEI is one of Canada’s leading liberal undergraduate institutions. It is located in Charlottetown and is a central educational, cultural and social institution in the City and the Province. The University has a population of 4,000 part-time and full-time students and offers traditional programs as well as many unique areas of study. We have a strong research record in a number of areas.

Reporting to the University Librarian, you will be responsible for providing a variety of professional services, including: in-person and virtual reference service in all disciplines; information literacy instruction via classes, consultations, and guides and tutorials; and collection development activities. There will also be an opportunity to work with other Library personnel on special projects. A creative approach to delivering services and resources which facilitate access to local and global knowledge and save the user's time is key.

Applicants will have a degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent accreditation in library and information science. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in an academic library setting, including experience with new and emerging library technologies. The successful candidate should be an innovator with a creative spark and a strong team approach to development together with excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.

This is a term appointment with academic status. The position is part of the UPEI Faculty Association Bargaining Unit #1, and rank will be determined depending on qualifications and experience. It is expected that the appointment will take effect October 1, 2010.
