Salary:                                   $ 33,474 - $ 39,363 (Group 6)



Founded in 1802 – Saint Mary’s University offers a full range of unique graduate and undergraduate programs. Currently there are more than 7,500 full and part-time students and a workforce of over 2000 full-time, part-time, casual and student employees.


The Patrick Power Library seeks a Library Clerk V in our Access Services Department to direct and co-ordinate the work of up to 30 student assistants and provide assistance to the Manager, Access Services in the day-to-day operation of the department. In the absence of the Manager, Access Services assumes supervisory responsibility for the department.


Reporting to the Manager, Access Services, the duties of the Library Clerk V include: handling patron inquiries and complaints, assigning staff to hourly shifts on the Library’s Circulation Desk, collecting records of fines paid daily, adjusting and removing charges and holds on the student’s University Banner account, using the Aleph Integrated Library system to maintain, charge out, discharge and renew materials, operating the cash register, operating the camera to make student, faculty and staff photo identification cards, and opening and closing the library as required.


The successful candidate will have completed high school plus have a minimum of two years’ related experience. A Library and Information Technician Diploma would be an asset. The ideal applicant must be mature and knowledgeable with good interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrate proficiency with MS Word and Excel; exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public; be willing to learn new library technologies; have effective time management and organizational skills plus the ability to multi-task in a high-volume team environment with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Experience in SCT Banner, Aleph Integrated Library system and familiarity with the Library of Congress Classifciation System are considered assets.
