The Patrick Power
Library seeks a Manager of Access Services for our highly motivated and experienced
team.
Reporting to the University Librarian, the Manager, Access Services manages the
Access Services Department and guides staff in providing directional reference
services to patrons. As
the
Manager, you will provide
leadership in the coordination of Access Services activities and supervise a
dynamic and diverse staff of eight (8) direct reports, and a large number
of part-time and student employees. You will select and recommend hiring of
employees who are direct reports, confirm selection and transfer of indirect
reports, complete probationary review and determine whether to confirm
employment of direct reports, as well as schedule staff and monitor attendance.
As Manager, you will also develop and implement policies and procedures for the
department, and manage the provision of circulation services, ID production,
reserve collection maintenance and overall stacks maintenance. As a front line
service department, the Manager, Access Services is also responsible for the
development and delivery of excellent customer service as well as the security
and control of the library collection.
The successful candidate will demonstrate vision, an ability
to anticipate needs and respond, an ability to manage staff and effectively
deal with staff issues, and a proven record of building and maintaining
positive working relationships in a fast paced, team-oriented environment. Your
knowledge of library and access service operations, and demonstrated
supervisory experience, ideally in a unionized setting, will be complemented by
an Undergraduate degree plus a minimum of three to five years’ experience. In
particular, strong communication, computer and organizational skills, and an
ability to meet deadlines are required.
