Duties:
Under the direction of the Librarian, the Library Assistant facilitates the provision of technical and information services within a busy and dynamic departmental library. Responsibilities include the maintenance of library and departmental databases including producing reports. The Library Assistant orders books for all divisions in the department including the processing of all related invoices, bills and the handling of all financial aspects of these transactions. The Library Assistant maintains the library’s journal collection; corrects problems with periodical subscriptions and standing orders, manages circulation including overdues, and responds to incoming inquiries. The Library Assistant maintains the Authorized Learning Resources collection in a unique (SQL) database. This position involves the cataloguing of library materials, including both original and copy cataloguing and provides input on various cataloguing issues. The Library Assistant assists with the provision of information and reference services to a diverse clientele of library users. Shelving, shelf reading and other tasks related to the operation of the library are also performed.
Qualifications:
Grade 12; plus completion of a library assistant course; plus 4 years related experience after course completion; or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience. Demonstrated competency with library databases including DB/Textworks (Inmagic Genie), and proficiency in the use of WordPerfect, Windows, Groupwise, and Internet. Excellent organization and customer service skills are required in this position. The incumbent will also demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Some heavy lifting of books and boxes of materials is required. Experience with an SQL- based end system, SAP or Excel would be an asset.
Classification Range: TE 16
Salary Range: $36,057 - $41,982
