"He hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the
captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound" - Isaiah

Please consider sending a Christmas or New Year's card to Lisandra Lafita,
the wife of Luis Milán, a library director jailed in Cuba. At this season of
the year the family of Luis would greatly appreciate knowing that people
around the world know and care about their situation.

Luis Milán, age 49, is an Afro-Cuban physician and the director of the Jose
Lezama Lima Independent Library in Cuba's second largest city, Santiago de
Cuba. In March 2003, along with two dozen independent librarians and other
dissidents, he was arrested and sentenced to a long prison term following a
one-day trial. Luis is now serving a 13-year sentence in Tarea Confianza
Prison. His health is reported to be poor.

Along with the other impirsoned Cuban library workers who challenge
government censorship, Luis has been named a Prisoner of Conscience by Amnesty
International, which is calling for his immediate and unconditional release.

The Spanish phrase for Merry Christmas is "Feliz Navidad." The term for
Happy New Year is "Feliz Año Nuevo" (and the "ñ" symbol is important.)
Additional messages on the card, in English or Spanish, would be appreciated by the

This small effort can provide hope and cheer to a family which misses Luis
during this holiday season. It doesn't matter if the card arrives late. It
is the thought that counts.

Please address the card to:

Sra. Lisandra Lafita

Sincerely yours,
