Student Library Technician (YCW in Heritage Organizations) Location: Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority, Halifax NS Rate of Pay: $12 hourly for 30 hours per week Dates of employment: June 29, 2009- Aug. 28, 2009 (9 wks) Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 9:00am- 4:00pm Closing Date: Sun. June 21, 2009 (midnight) Job Description: The APSEA Library collection contains alternative format materials for children and youth who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, blind, or visually impaired; and professional materials for educators and other APSEA employees. Library staff are responsible for the circulation of materials on campus and to itinerant teachers in all four Atlantic Provinces. The student library technician will perform circulation, reference, cataloguing, and mail duties; create a cataloguing manual; and other library technician duties as required. Qualifications: -Enrolled in a Library and Information Technology Diploma program, Master's of Library and Information Science program, or equivalent. -Able to competently use Windows XP, e-mail, internet browsers, and electronic databases. -Able to communicate clearly in writing with good grammar and spelling. -Familiar with the Dewey Decimal system. -Familiar with library cataloguing. -Enthusiastic, punctual, well-organized, and detail-oriented. Eligibility: -Be legally entitled to work in Canada. -Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada. -Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. -Have been a full-time student in the semester preceding YCW job and intend to return to full-time studies in the Fall 2009 semester. -Be registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory. -Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment. -Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours) while employed with YCW.
