Instruction and Outreach Librarian, Permanent Full-time
The library of Atlantic School of
Theology seeks an enthusiastic, multi-talented, entry-level Instruction and
Outreach Librarian to fill a permanent, full-time position.
Reporting
to the Library Director, and working collaboratively with other librarians,
library staff and faculty, this librarian position is responsible to plan,
develop, implement and assess the instructional services program of the AST
Library, within the context of the academic curriculum and mission of Atlantic
School of Theology.
The Instruction and Outreach
Librarian also:
Provides instruction, reference and circulation
services, including one to one reference appointments, as a member of the
library’s public service team;
Assesses
and advises studentsregarding
their information literacy competencies;
Communicates
and cooperates effectively with faculty and librarians regarding student
information literacy competencies and related curriculum issues;
Supports other library staff to develop
information resource competencies;
Participates
in Collection Development;
Develops and maintains library relationships
with alumni and other relevant external groups;
Develops and implements library outreach events
and opportunities, in consultation with AST Library Director, Advancement
Office and other relevant groups and individuals;
Liaises with relevant service groups associated
with Novanet and the Council of Atlantic University Libraries;
Keeps relevant statistics and reports on activities;
Serves on AST Committees as required;
Requirements:
A Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program of library or
information studies;
Demonstrated teaching skills and aptitude for
library public services;
Familiarity
with trends and best practices in information literacy, library teaching
and learning methods and academic reference services;
A
working knowledge of computer and Web-based applications in reference, information literacy and
instructional technology;
Ability to multi-task successfully in a
service-oriented environment;
Excellent communication and interpersonal
skills;
Friendly demeanor, curiosity and a positive
approach to problem-solving.
Highly Desirable Assets:
Post-secondary education in Theology, Religious
Studies, or other relevant humanities or social science discipline(s);
Previous library work experience.
This is a full-time, permanent
position, and is available immediately. Work schedule may include evening and
weekend hours. Salary will be determined with regard to experience and
qualifications, within the current salary range applied to professional
librarians at Atlantic School of Theology.
Founded in 1971, Atlantic School of
Theology is an ecumenical, tri-denominational theological school, accredited by
the Association of Theological Schools in the United
States and Canada. We provide Masters Degree and
Graduate Certificate level education, through both on-campus and online course
options; A diverse range of continuing education and public interest events
also take place each year on our picturesque campus, on the shores of the
Northwest Arm of Halifax Harbour. Since March 2002 Atlantic School of Theology
has been affiliated with Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.
