The Collection Development & Management Interest Group of the Canadian Library Association is pleased to announce the paper presentations for Collections 2009:

"Drawing comics into Canadian public libraries: an analysis of collection practices for comics in public libraries" - Rachael Collins, School of Library and Information Studies, University of Alberta

"Developing a rapid assessment tool for collections and services in sociology: the experience of the ANSS" - David Woolwine, Hofstra University, and Jason Phillips, New York University

"More than a rubber stamp?: the role of collection librarians in curriculum consultations" - Laura E. Briggs,  UBC Okanagan

"E-books, licences and copyright" - Rob Tiessen, University of Calgary

"Dreaming big, going bold: creating a "shovel-ready" e-book collection during a time of economic caution, confusion, and crisis" - John Barnett, PALCI (Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc.)

"Squaring the circle: towards an integrated print and digital journal preservation strategy" - Scott Gillies, University of Guelph

 

 

The keynote speaker for Collections 2009 will be Carolyn Wood, the Executive Director of the Association of Canadian Publishers.  She will be speaking on "The long-term future of book publishing in Canada (at least the next week and a half)".  The keynote presentation is kindly sponsored by Blackwell Book Services.

In addition, CLA/YBP Award for Outstanding Contribution to Collection Development and Management will be presented at Collections 2009.

Preconference rates (unchanged since 2004) are:

CDMIG members: $80
CLA members: $100 (non-members of CDMIG)
non-CLA members: $125

Registration includes a morning coffee break (kindly sponsored by Midwest Library Services), an afternoon coffee break (kindly sponsored by Coutts Library Services), and lunch.

The registration deadline for Collections 2009 is April 17, 2009.
