The
Faculty of Management and the School of Information Management welcome Annie
St-Jacques, doctoral candidate in the Faculty of Education at Laval University,
as Researcher-in-Residence for six months starting in April. Ms St-Jacques is
investigating the learning and teaching that takes place in graduate seminars
and comparing face-to-face and online experiences. Her study samples are drawn
from both Laval University and Dalhousie University.
Annie
St-Jacques is a doctoral student in Educational
Technology at Laval University, Quebec and lives in Halifax. She holds a
graduate diploma in multimedia instructional design and a master's degree in
distance education. Her background is in teaching (undergraduate French, French
as a second language and translation as she is also a Certified Translator) and
in instructional design. In light of the current pressures exerted by
globalization, her research involves developing a
sustainable model of online learning for dual mode universities. Particularly
interested in graduate studies, and the graduate seminar as a teaching method,
her research is articulated around three main thematic focuses, the
benefits of the graduate seminar for students, the enhancement of faculty
member teaching practice and the contribution to the field of educational
technology. Ultimately, her goal is to demonstrate that is it possible to
preserve the quality of the mainstream, graduate seminar while reproducing it
in a real-time, online learning environment.
