DIGITIZATION/DIGITAL COLLECTIONS ASSISTANTS – 2 positions
DALHOUSIE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

The Dalhousie University Archives and Special Collections, on behalf of the
Library’s Digital Initiatives Group, is seeking two individuals to work with
the Library’s staff in the digitization of selected library and archival
materials and in some instances the creation of on-line digital collections.
The work will include a variety of tasks including the scanning of a variety of
bound and unbound, published and unpublished materials, the creation of
metadata for these digital objects, the placement of these digital objects into
the Library’s institutional repository, DalSpace, and for the digital
collections, the contextualization of the information into coherent web based
resources for inclusion on the Library’s webpage.

The successful candidates should have knowledge or experience with:

1. Educational background in archival or library studies, or another applicable
field of
study;

2. Computer applications (Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, scanning and
web design software) and systems (both personal computer and network);

3. Familiarity with institutional repositories and the creation of metadata, a
definite asset;

4. Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally;

5. Work effectively as part of a team as well as independently with a minimum of
supervision.

Start date: 17 November 2008 or as soon as possible

End date:  31 March 2009

Salary: $15.00 per hour plus benefits.  Each member of the team must work a
total 630 hours during this period (an average of 35 hours per week).
