Abstract

Information Professionals are passionate! Passionate about the work they do and the difference they can make in the lives of those in their community. Learn how one professional librarian followed her passion to the perfect job through readers' advisory service for adult readers.

 

Biography

Sharron Smith is the Manager of Readers' Advisory Services at the Kitchener Public Library (Ontario, Canada); and is the coauthor of Canadian Fiction: a guide to reading interests (Libraries Unlimited, 2005). This guide is designed to help readers find great reads with a focus on Canadian fiction.  She is a popular presenter of readers' advisory programs and training both nationally and internationally, is active in the profession, and is a strong advocate for both readers' advisory and reading. She is an instructor in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario and her work and dedication were recently honoured with the prestigious W. J. Robertson Medallion by the Ontario Library Board's Association; the medallion is commonly known in the profession as the "Librarian of the Year" award.
