Hello, Fellow APLA Folk: No doubt last month's APLA Conference whetted your appetite for all things PEI, and here's a great reason to come back (in warmer weather!): the Eighth International Conference on LM Montgomery is being held in Charlottetown from June 25th - 29th (www.lmmontgomery.ca/node/128). Believe me, if you're a book-lover, this is truly a Must-Do event. Staged every two years, the LMM Conference gets bigger and better with each offering, and with the 2008 anniversary of Anne of Green Gables, the organizers have pulled out all the stops to make this conference the best yet. Where else are you going to hear scholars and literati (including a few librarians) from Iran, Sweden, Finland, Australia, Italy, Taiwan, and all over North America gathered together to share their passion and insight for Canada's best-selling author? "But I'm not an Anne fan," I hear some say. Well, to be honest, neither am I, but I've been to several LMM Conferences now, and rest assured that this conference will engage you and move you like no other, regardless of whether you've just seen the TV show or have committed every Montgomery novel to memory. It is at once humbling and amazing to see remarkable minds gathered from all over the world to celebrate Atlantic Canadian books: you owe it to yourself to see it at least once, and this is definitely the year to do it. And the good news is, it's easy (registration and payment can be done online) and economical: - Full registration for the whole Conference is very reasonably-priced at $375, (including four days of the Conference, with lunches and nutrition breaks, plus a raft of great educational events and entertainment); - For those with tighter schedules and/or budgets, day passes are only $75, and single-session passes are only $25 (and there's a great two-for-one deal now available on these). There are also two very interesting workshops being offered, at $40 and $30, respectively. If you have any other questions, check out the Conference Web site, or feel free to contact me.
