Canadian Government Documents and Information on the Web
with Jeff Moon- 6-week On-LINE COURSE

Governments around the world have embraced the Web as a major publication tool for government documents, laws, statistics, and citizen-based information. Web-based government information is a great enhancement to a library collection -- if you know how to find and use these resources.

Designed for general librarians and professionals without an extensive background searching for government information, this course will introduce you to key Canadian government information sources on the Internet. The program is focused primarily on Canadian Federal publications and related information. We'll cover a new topic in each week of this six-week program and provide exercises to help you practice using these resources effectively.

Technologies to Promote Your Libraries

In our fast changing Web 2.0 on-line world, how do we keep up with new technologies to use promote our libraries? One way is to talk to those in the know and that's what this audio session is all about. Jane Dysart, Dysart & Jones Associates, interviews globe-traveling Stephen Abram about the cool new technology tools he has experienced, heard about, observed as well as interesting research about new technologies, specifically those that can be used to promote the library. Through exciting stories, Abram shares his knowledge of new technologies and examples of libraries using them, and provides lots of places to look for further resources.

Space Design for 21st Century Library Media Centers
with Steven M. Baule - 1 hour WEB CONFERENCE

In this session, you will learn about the keys to designing library media centers and other technology-rich student spaces. You will leave the session with an understanding of what questions to ask before you begin, the basic design options for a media center, technology concerns, and more. Some brief discussion of wiring issues and how to bid the project will be included. Some sample plans and programming documents will be provided.

This session is intended to provide library media specialists, administrators and other interested persons in the basic process and considerations for managing a library media center related facilities project whether new construction or a renovation of an existing center. It is intended to be interactive throughout. The presenter will be open to questions throughout and will provide sample materials for each section of the presentation.

Using Ergonomics to Prevent Injuries and Retain Workers

Librarians, and other staff working in all different types of libraries, are exposed to workplace hazards that can contribute to the development of a variety of work-related musculoskeletal disorders. These hazards and disorders not only result in pain and discomfort, but they also increase costs, reduce productivity, and may lead to the loss of experienced and knowledgeable staff. By understanding and applying basic, good ergonomic principles libraries can greatly reduce the risk to all staff, while improving service delivery and saving money.

She is a consultant in the areas of management and organizational development, information literacy, 21st Century librarianship as well as in customer service. Drawing on her extensive experience, Julie will present a series of 4 workshops addressing popular topics of discussion. Registered participants will be invited to send questions in advance of each workshop, if desired, and she will weave the responses into her presentations.
