 Duties:
 
Under the direction of the Systems and Library Technology Manager, and
reporting to the Library Assistant III, the Library Technician is
responsible for updating and maintaining the Nova Scotia Legislative
Library’s Electronic Repository for Nova Scotia Government Publications.
 The technician will locate Nova Scotia government publications in
electronic format and make decisions about how to preserve them and
provide access to them. This position will be responsible for ensuring
that all electronic publications found are properly catalogued according
to accepted standards in the library’s integrated library system.  
In addition, the technician will ensure that such materials are
included in the Nova Scotia Government Annual and Monthly Checklists.  
He/she will be responsible for maintaining the checklist publication
database and ensuring the Monthly and Annual Checklists are error-free
before publication and circulation.  This position will also be
responsible for providing assistance indexing newspaper clippings based
upon a controlled vocabulary and may be called upon to edit web pages. 
Shelving, shelf reading and other tasks related to the operation of the
library are occasionally performed. 
 Qualifications:
 
Grade 12 plus successful completion of a library technician diploma. 
Demonstrated competency with databases especially DB/Textworks and MS
Access, and proficiency in the use of WordPerfect, Microsoft Office
Suite, GroupWise and Internet browsers.    Excellent organizational and
customer service skills are important in this position.  The incumbent
will also demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a
team.  Some heavy lifting of books and boxes of materials is required.
