Electronic Services Librarian, Contract Position

 

The library of the Atlantic School of Theology seeks an enthusiastic, multi-talented librarian to fill an 8-month contract position as Electronic Services Librarian.  The successful applicant will report to the Library Director within a cooperative work environment.

 

The Electronic Services Librarian provides public services (circulation and reference), plans and teaches information literacy sessions, manages the electronic systems of the library, and works in partnership with other public service staff to provide quality library services and resources to the community of the Atlantic School of Theology. Work schedule may include evening and weekend hours.

 

 

The Electronic Services Librarian:

 

  • Maintains library computer systems and library webpage;
  • Trains and supports staff, student and faculty users of library computer systems;
  • Liaises with the Novanet library consortium, the Atlantic Scholarly Information Network (ASIN), and the East Coast Relais Consortium;
  • Manages and maintains vendor databases, electronic collections and research software;
  • Liaises with system vendors on technical and support issues;
  • Liaises with AST’s Chief Administrative Officer, the Information Technology Systems and Support Department (ITSS) of Saint Mary’s University, and AST’s Public Relations & Development Officer to support campus computer systems and campus Webpage development.

 

Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program of library or information studies;
  • Training and experience with online library systems; 
  • Proficiency with web-based applications (HTML, CSS, JavaScript);
  • Demonstrated aptitude for reference and library instruction services;
  • Ability to multi-task successfully in a service-oriented environment;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Friendly demeanor, curiosity and a positive approach to problem-solving.

 

Highly Desirable Assets:

 

  • Academic training in relevant humanities or social science discipline;
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Microsoft Exchange Server environment;

 

 

This is a full-time, limited term contract, to end of May 2008, and is available immediately. Salary will be determined with regard to experience and qualifications, within the current salary range applied to professional librarians at Atlantic School of Theology.
