BCLA's Conference Program Committee invites those working or interested in the field of librarianship to submit program proposals for the annual BC Library Conference. Delegates have the opportunity to showcase their work and share new ideas, debate issues and upcoming trends, and network with colleagues from a broad range of libraries and library-related services. We are looking for proposals that complement this year's theme of creativity in libraries, however we will consider all proposals. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 26, 2007. Conference Theme: Off the Shelf and Out of the Box: Creativity in Libraries Fred Kent will provide this year's Keynote Address. Fred is a leading authority on revitalizing city spaces and one of the foremost thinkers in livability, smart growth and the future of the city. He is the founder and president of Project for Public Spaces, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people create and sustain public spaces that build communities. For more information about PPS, go to http://www.pps.org/ Our Plenary Session will be given by Bill Barnes and Gene Ambaum, the writers and artist behind Unshelved, the world's only daily comic strip set in a public library. In publication since February 2002, Unshelved creatively captures both true and fictional stories of the cast of characters at Mallville Public Library. And, as Bill and Gene say, the stranger the story, the more likely it is to be true.
