Overview:
 
 OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. is a nonprofit, membership,
computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public
purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing
information costs. Tens of thousands of libraries around the world use OCLC
services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend and preserve library materials.
We are currently seeking candidates for the Manager of Library Technical
Services position at our Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) office location.
  
 
 
 Responsibilities:
  
 
 
                          Responsible for all operations of all services
and implementation of all new businesses, products and services of LTS,
Library Technical Services, LTS, provides retroconversion, contract
cataloguing and processing services to a wide variety of Canadian libraries,
assisting libraries in cataloging current as well as backlog materials.
Major contracts are ongoing and comprehensive, offering services for all
formats and many languages of library materials. Smaller, finite projects
are undertaken as opportunities arise. 

                         Manages the day-to-day operation of the
organization's production operations, including a staff of approximately 25.


                         Establishes policies, standards and procedures
including use of best practices. 

                         Develops, interprets and implements systems,
policies and procedures for the growth of the organization, with an eye
toward increasing efficiencies in an increasingly competitive business.
Efficiencies may come from local improvements and/or leveraging existing
tools already available throughout OCLC. 

                         Responsible for strategic planning for product and
service set of LTS, in conjunction with OCLC Cataloging strategic direction.


                         Prepares related reports and audits current
procedures to monitor efficiency of operations. Assists in new product
and/or new service development.

 
  
 
 
 Qualifications:
  
 
 
                          Master's degree in a related discipline or
equivalent education and/or experience. Minimum of ten years' experience in
operations management or in a production environment. 

                         Should possess excellent communication skills and
ability to succeed in a change-oriented deadline-driven environment 

                         Working knowledge of library metadata standards
and production
