THE VALUE OF SPECIAL LIBRARIES
2008 CASLIS Ottawa Seminar

CASLIS Ottawa is pleased to invite you to a two-day seminar to explore the value of special libraries – how we measure it and how we communicate it. The seminar will be held January 23 and 24, 2008 at 395 Wellington Street.

Special libraries – whether corporate, government or not-for-profit – face the constant struggle of justifying their existence and budgets and of explaining their value to their stakeholders.

Over the course of two-days, participants will have an opportunity to learn about:

·         how to define performance measurements that matter to stakeholders;

·         how to measure the value of our web presences;

·         how to align our measurements with those of the larger organization;

·         how libraries avoid failure and survive; and

·         how to build relationships to maximize our impact and increase our effectiveness and visibility.

The seminar includes a keynote presentation by Margaret Haines, University Librarian at Carleton University, on evidence-based librarianship and special libraries, highlighting the importance of information practitioner research and how we can improve the use of research in our professional practice.

At the end of the first day, participants are invited to join their colleagues and friends for an evening reception at Ottawa's French-styled eatery, the Metropolitain Brasserie. The brasserie's Parisian-inspired décor is the perfect backdrop, with its red velvet draperies, for this reception of delectable hot and cold hors-d'oeuvres.
