Professional Librarian (Systems)

Temporary Position

September 2007 – May 2008

 

Saint Mary’s University – Patrick Power Library seeks an enthusiastic, innovative librarian to fill an 8-month contract position.  The successful applicant will report to the University Librarian within a collegial working environment. 

 

Systems duties will include monitoring library systems maintenance, and liaison with the University’s Information Technology Systems and Support Department (ITSS), the Novanet library consortium, and the Atlantic Scholarly Information Network (ASIN).  Duties will also include: liaison with vendors on technical and support issues; management and maintenance of vendor databases, electronic collections and research software, and of business, statistical and data sources. The candidate may have some collection development, reference, and information literacy responsibilities. 

 

A Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program of library or information studies is required.  Training and experience with online library systems is required.  Proficiency with web-based applications (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is required.  Knowledge of university networked server environments is required.

 

The successful candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as a commitment to working cooperatively to provide quality library service.   

 

This is a limited term contract, up to May 2008, and is available immediately. Appointment will be at the rank of Librarian 1 or 2, and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as outlined in the Saint Mary’s University Faculty Union Collective Agreement.
