POSITION: 		Library Assistant 1

POSITION OBJECTIVES:
Reporting to the Manager, Library and Archives Services, you will provide support in 3 library activity areas: administration, purchasing and circulation.  A principle challenge of the work will be in balancing work responsibilities between providing assistance to library patrons and fulfilling administrative duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
§	You will be responsible for the maintenance of all correspondence and library files, and must be able to provide assistance to library users concerning the public on-line catalogue and basic reference works.
§	You will demonstrate a high level of adaptability and flexibility to respond to the needs of the Library users and to the changing work cycles of the department. 
§	You will also possess the necessary organizational skills and time management skills to balance work responsibilities between the front desk (customer service) and the office area (administration).

QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in a library environment and a demonstrated knowledge in the visual and performing arts. Two years post-secondary education or certification in Library Information Technology and Technical studies is desired. A second language would also be an asset. You will become part of a dynamic team of library staff supporting the information needs of a diverse patron-base of both internal and external clients.  


This is a salaried CUPE local 4318 support staff position, with a six month probationary period.

This salary for this position is currently under review.
