Dear all,

Here is a call for applications for a 2-3 month visiting fellowship in
applied ethics in South Australia:

Visiting research fellowship in applied ethics at the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH
AUSTRALIA
The Ian Wark Research Institute (The Wark(tm))*, after consultation with the
Ethics Centre of South Australia (ECSA), is offering one fellowship to
support a visit by an external researcher in applied ethics for a period of
2 to 3 months duration. The fellowship is valued at: stipend up to AUD$7500;
accommodation up to AUD$4000; travel up to AUD$2500. The Fellowship will be
based at the Mawson Lakes campus (Adelaide) of the University of South
Australia. Further information on The Wark can be obtained at
http://www.unisa.edu.au/iwri/

The Fellowship is available after June 2007.

The purposes of the fellowship are:
* To examine critically the research outcomes of The Wark from an
ethical perspective.
* To examine the research outcomes of The Wark, from an ethical
perspective, within the broader context of national and international
scientific research.
* To make recommendations concerning future research directions of The
Wark from an ethical perspective.
* To publicise the results of this enquiry in an appropriate way.

The fellowship will be awarded by The Wark, in consultation and liaison with
ECSA, on the basis of merit, judged according to the above criteria.
Applications should demonstrate that the applicant has a substantial
research background in ethical theory and in the application of ethics to
the field of science. Familiarity with the particular scientific interests
of The Wark would be an advantage. The Director: ECSA or nominee will act as
a host staff member for the successful applicant for the duration of the
fellowship.

The full stipend and accommodation is expected to cover up to a three month
period but shorter periods, depending on the availability of the visiting
researcher, will be considered on a pro-rata basis with possible retention
of full entitlement to the travel allowance.

Applications should include:
* A description of research background in ethics and any link with the
ethics of science, and a CV of 3-4 pages.
* An outline of a proposed research program relating to The Wark.
* A proposal describing how the applicant would intend to publicise
the results of the research.
* Period of availability for taking up the Fellowship.
* A detailed budget covering travel costs and accommodation costs. If
the research requires any extraordinary equipment, including hardware and
software, this should be mentioned.
* The names and contact details of two academic referees.

The application should not exceed three pages, not including the CV.
Further information on the position can be obtained from Emeritus Professor
Robert Crotty ([log in to unmask])

Applications should be submitted to The Director: Ian Wark Research
Institute, University of South Australia, Mawson Lakes Boulevard, Mawson
Lakes, South Australia 5095.

Closing date: Friday, 18 May 2007.

*The Ian Wark Research Institute (The Wark(tm)) was founded in 1994 and is
one of the key research concentrations in the University of South Australia
(UniSA). Named in recognition of eminent Australian scientist Sir Ian
William Wark < http://www.unisa.edu.au/iwri/aboutthewark/ianwilliamwark.asp

it has established a reputation for solving complex industry problems
through the application of excellent science and technology.

The Wark holds a unique position in the Australian research scene as the
government-sponsored Australian Research Council (ARC) Special Research
Centre for Particle and Material Interfaces. This status was awarded to The
Wark by the ARC in October 1999.

The Wark is unusual in its creative and flexible approach to research and
development, where a mixture of fundamental and applied research is
conducted across a wide range of project areas. Research in The Wark
embraces bio and polymer interfaces, colloids and nanostructures, materials
and environmental surface science and minerals processing. Some of The
Wark's research work is aimed at improving existing processes in industry
whilst other efforts lead to new technologies.
