Public Services Librarian
Mount Allison University Libraries invite applications from qualified candidates for the position of Public Services Librarian.  This is a 1-year term appointment, from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008, subject to budgetary approval.
The Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives is committed to working with students and faculty in order to meet their academic and research needs.  We seek an innovative and dynamic professional to provide reference services and library instruction and to participate in collection development.  Along with librarian colleagues, the incumbent may also be assigned responsibilities in other areas befitting the Librariesí priorities and dependent on the incumbentís skill sets (e.g. cataloguing, web editing, etc.).
In the primary role as a member of the Public Services team, responsibilities will include reference service, collection development for selected subject areas, library instruction, and development of reference and instructional materials.
In a secondary role, responsibilities will be assigned in accordance with the priorities of the Libraries and Archives.  This may include cataloguing, web editing or other professional responsibilities which best match the Libraries and Archivesí needs and the candidateís strengths and expertise.
Qualifications or requirements
Qualifications for this position include an MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited library school.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities and experience in collections development, library instruction, and reference services in a collegial, academic environment.  The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills; a strong public service centred philosophy; and a keen interest in collections development, teaching, reference, and outreach.  A background in the Humanities is preferred and a second graduate degree is an asset.  Knowledge of French and/or German would also be an asset.
This appointment will be made at the rank of General Librarian.  Salary will be within the established range and commensurate with qualifications and experience.  A letter of application, curriculum vitae, and the letters of three references should be received no later than the 16th of April, and sent to:
