COOKE, Dorothy Louise - 90, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, in St.
Vincent's Nursing Home, Halifax.
Born July 2, 1916, in Halifax,
she was a daughter of Frederick W. Dobson (Halifax),
and Flora W. Dobson (Sperry), (Petite Riviere). She grew up in Halifax
attending the Halifax Academy,
Dalhousie University,
and the University of Toronto
for a degree in Library Science. She married Arthur Charles Cooke of Halifax
and they lived in River John, N.S.;
Howe Sound, B.C, Yarmouth and Halifax.
In 1957 she began her career at the Dalhousie University Library, working there
until 1981 at which time she was University Librarian. After retirement, she
volunteered at the Help Line and Seniors Housing. She continued her interest in
genealogy and worked through the N.S. Public Archives. She was predeceased by
her husband, Arthur Cooke; her sisters, Helen March, Bridgewater,
and Margie Bishop, Dartmouth; her
brother, John Dobson, and son-in-law, Dan Mrkich. She is survived by her
daughters, Janet Jericho, and Susan Mrkich, Ottawa;
her son-in-law, Manfred Jericho; her grandchildren, Niels, Marc, Stefan
Jericho, and Alexander, Soren and Astrid Mrkich. Dorothy lived the last six
years of her life at St. Vincent's Nursing Home where
she enjoyed the musical entertainments, dancing, music therapy, wonderful food
and most of all the compassionate and gentle care of the staff on the 6th
floor. We wish to thank all of the staff for their care and concern for Dorothy
and her family. Donations may be made to St. Vincent's
Nursing Home or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
