The Nova Scotia Provincial Library will be hosting an audio conference/webcast from The Education Institute on “State of the Art: Federated Searching”. This presentation, with Frank Cervone and Jeff Wisniewski, will take place on January 9th. Federated searching tools are being implemented by libraries of all types, but the issues related to implementation are complex. In this tech talk, you'll learn about the best practices of libraries implementing federated searching as well as recent research on how federated search interfaces can be made more usable. Find out what works and what doesn't in relationship to placement of federated search boxes, display of search results, and design decisions in creating topical groups.

The Benefits
Not one, but two experts in library information technology and library Web site design, Jeff Wisniewski and Frank Cervone share best practices for using federated search engines on library Web sites. They will illustrate some of the issues with federated search engines as well as the rewards of this technology.

Who Should Participate?
Anyone looking for innovative ideas and best practices for adding federated search for their library users.
