Reporting to the Coordinator of Public Services, the Circulation Coordinator coordinates Library circulation services, ensuring consistency and efficiency in accordance with MSVU Library and Novanet policies. The Circulation Coordinator is the team leader in a department of 4 full-time and 2 part-time employees. The Circulation Desk operates eighty-eight hours each week with day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
DUTIES: Oversees the day-to-day operations/activities of the Circulation unit, including: serving patrons; identifying and developing procedures; implementing Novanet procedures and upgrades as these apply to Circulation service; providing technical guidance to staff; preparation of documentation and handling of correspondence; working in conjunction with other library and university departments. The Circulation Coordinator oversees Reserve processing; notice and report production for overdues, fines, holds, recalls, and bills for replacement; financial transactions relating to sales and fines; patron registration; the organization of book sales; reciprocal borrowing with university libraries nation-wide; troubleshooting for the department; handling complaints/concerns; and recommending revision to Circulation policy as appropriate. The Circulation Coordinator maintains records and statistics for the annual report and oversees the annual updating of the Circulation Department manual. The incumbent is the Library's representative on the Novanet Lending Services Committee, and may serve on other committees. The Circulation Coordinator works occasional evenings, weekends and holidays. The Circulation Coordinator participates in the hiring of permanent staff, and interviews, hires, schedules and evaluates Student Assistants. The incumbent provides reference/research assistance, and may be called upon to conduct tours and workshops, and draft appropriate documentation as a participant of the Reference Service team.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelor's degree and three years' library experience with related supervisory experience. In addition, a Library Technician diploma and reference/instruction experience is preferred. This position requires someone who can combine excellent interpersonal and communication skills with exceptional customer service. The incumbent must be flexible, have good judgement, and be able to switch tasks easily. We require someone who works well in a busy, fast-paced environment and can lead by example. Experience with an automated library system (preferably ExLibris) is essential; and the incumbent must have very strong technical skills with substantial experience using Microsoft products, web browsers/web editing packages, downloading and/or installing software, and running system backup procedures.
Classification: NSGEU - Level 7
Salary: $33,667 per annum
