Campus Librarian
(Continuing, Full-time Position)
(Commencing August 1, 2006 – approximate)
Annapolis Valley Campus - Lawrencetown & Middleton sites
Competition No. 2006-183

Nova Scotia Community College is at a pivotal time in our history.  The College has launched a comprehensive development plan made possible by a landmark investment from the Province of Nova Scotia.  As a result, our campuses have experienced some dramatic changes.  Vibrant new learning spaces are already filled with NSCC students enjoying the enhanced facilities – and more excitement is coming as major construction projects head toward the finish line.  In addition to renovating and/or expanding several sites, NSCC, already recognized as Canada’s Portfolio College, is implementing an innovative learning-centred model.

OUR OPPORTUNITY:  Join the NSCC Library Services team during an exciting period of opportunity. You will have the overall accountability for the delivery and evaluation of the Annapolis Valley Campus Library services, which includes library services to both Lawrencetown and Middleton sites, under the general direction and supervision of the Regional Librarian for the Annapolis Valley.  You will play an integral role, working closely with faculty to identify, plan and where required, implement methods of integrating Library Services into Campus programs to maximize added value.  You will also evaluate the information needs of students and staff, plan programs and services that address these needs and monitor quality of service.  You will conduct formal and informal user education sessions.  You will continue to develop a resource collection suitable for campus requirements, including the digital data and map collections of the JB Hall Library, promote the benefits of information literacy, and provide reference assistance.  You will be responsible for overseeing Library staff at both sites.

YOUR CREDENTIALS:  You have a Master of Library Science/Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited program, an academic background in geography, information technologies, sciences or closely related disciplines and a minimum of one and a half years occupational experience.  You are technology savvy, possessing advanced computer literacy skills and are able to interact effectively with all levels of College students and staff.  Ideally your experience is in an academic environment and you are familiar with geospatial, geographical resources and their application in the health, business and information technologies sectors.  You have a broad understanding of the variety of information resources and bibliographic instruction concepts and techniques applicable to Community College students and staff.  As a creative self-starter you have been recognized for your strong work ethic and your commitment to excellence.

CULTIVATING DIVERSITY:  The College values diversity in the workplace and strongly encourages applications from African Nova Scotians and other members of the visible minority community, Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities and women in non-traditional roles.  Applicants from these designated groups wishing to self identify may do so in their cover letters or by filling out the attached questionnaire on Cultivating Diversity at the end of the application process.

Application deadline is July 20, 2006 at 4 pm.  Online applications accepted at www.nscc.ca

NSCC offers a competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package.  As a learning-centred organization, we provide opportunities for every NSCC employee to be a life-long learner.
