MANAGER, LIBRARY POLICY AND TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS - Victoria

Ministry of Education, Public Library Services - The Public Library Services Branch supports public libraries, improves and promotes public library services for the benefit of all British Columbians, and provides advice to government respecting public library policy and legislation. The branch works with federal, provincial and municipal governments and has a significant role in supporting provincial government strategic directions and priorities (e.g. literacy, bridging the digital divide, public access to health information, and government on-line). Libraries are early adopters of new technology service delivery and as a collective have developed sophisticated systems applications and protocols. There are 70 boards and 238 library locations throughout the province.
 
The Manager, Library Policy and Technology Systems is responsible for researching, reviewing and developing policy proposals and legislation related to The Library Act and managing the development of technology management strategies, standards and solutions in support of Province-wide library services. The position is responsible for developing systems and services to provide equitable access and to enhance information available across British Columbia. The position promotes new opportunities offered by technology and addresses many of the barriers to access that exist in rural communities.
 
Qualifications - Post-secondary degree in Library Sciences from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution and experience in technology systems development; or a related technology degree and extensive library working experience. Experience working at a management level in a public library; Knowledge and understanding of public library governance and social trends and issues affecting public libraries; library technology applications and protocols; and of supporting business operations through the implementation of technology systems.
