Legislative Librarian

Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick

The Legislative Library operates primarily to support Members of the Legislative Assembly and departments of government, in order that they may better serve the people of New Brunswick. The Legislative Librarian is a member of the management team of the Office of the Legislative Assembly, reports to and advises the Clerk of the House, and communicates with Members of the Legislative Assembly and the public concerning library services. The Legislative Library has a collection of over 40,000 books, including a very unique New Brunswick Collection. It is a full depository for New Brunswick government documents as well as a selective depository for federal government publications.

Duties: The Legislative Librarian is responsible for strategic planning, policy development, and administration of specialized library services for Members of the Legislative Assembly, employees of the Legislative Assembly and government departments. The Legislative Librarian is responsible for developing and implementing library policy and procedures, and carrying out the day-to-day planning, budgetary and administrative functions of the Legislative Library, including management of a six-member team.

Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Library Science and a minimum of five years of related library and progressive managerial experience is required. The successful candidate must possess excellent leadership, decision-making, organizational, interpersonal and communications skills. Knowledge of and experience with electronic document archival systems would be an asset. Experience in a government library, collection development skills, and experience in research and report writing would be an asset. Written and spoken competence in English and French is essential.

Salary Range: Pay Band 6-7 ($54,886-79,638)
