Take your knowledge of blogs, RSS, and Web 2.0 technologies to the next level! The on-line world is abuzz with the growing potential of blogs, RSS and other "Web 2.0" technologies to revolutionize an average user's interaction with the Internet.

Is your library taking advantage of these technologies yet? This course will explore blog and RSS content, policies, and marketing as well as a number of other technologies such as Wikis and social book marking/networking tools and provide participants with an arsenal of tips and tricks to start getting the most out of these technologies at their libraries!

Who Should Participate?

This course is intended for librarians and information professionals who are interested in exploring ways in which blogs, RSS, and other Web 2.0 technologies can be used in their libraries for content delivery and to create dynamic Web services and presence. Course content is intended to build upon the participant's existing knowledge of blogs, blog terminology, and RSS and provide a context within which these technologies can be used in the library world..

Constructed for registrants who took Amanda's Everything To Get You Started on Blogs and RSS on-line course in the Education Institute last fall, this course will be suitable for anyone with a basic knowledge however acquired.

* Learn about blog design and usability and how to create engaging content for your institution's blog
* Explore blog content and style guidelines and ways to implement these guidelines
* Discuss ways to market your institution's blog and RSS feeds
* Examine the potential of Wikis as content creation and organization tools
* Explore social book marking, networking, and content-delivery tools like del.icio.us, Flickr, and Podcasting and their use in on-line service delivery.

Amanda Etches-Johnson is a Reference Librarian at Mills Memorial Library at McMaster University and author of blogwithoutalibrary.net. Amanda's research interests include educational Web design and emerging technologies. She has written and presented on topics such as blogs, social software, and instant messaging in libraries.
